Changes to availability in some Microsoft 365 Copilot apps (from 2026-04-14)

Due to changes in Microsoft's product specifications, from April 15, 2026, users who do not have an additional paid Copilot license for Microsoft 365 Copilot will no longer be able to use Copilot features in the Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote apps.

Changes

• Copilot will no longer be displayed or available for use on the Word/Excel/PowerPoint/OneNote apps.
• The user's screen will display "Copilot Chat (Basic)".

Features that will continue to be available

• Copilot Chat (in the web and within the Microsoft 365 Copilot app)
• Copilot in Outlook (assistance features for email and calendar)
• Chat-centered content creation features using Copilot Chat
