How to Use Microsoft 365 Apps
This is how to use Microsoft 365 apps (Office 365) on a computer, smartphone, and tablet.
Please check your own license first.

Those whose THERS account application license is A1 cannot install and use Microsoft 365 apps on their PC.
Please use the web version of the Microsoft 365 app.
1. Precautions for Use
- Each user is allowed to install the software on up to 5 PCs, 5 smartphones, and 5 tablets (a maximum of 15 devices).
- You can install it on personally owned devices, and students can use it for learning, research, extracurricular activities, etc. While faculty and staff can use it for education, research, work, self-development, etc.
- The use of Microsoft 365 applications under this agreement is permitted only for members.
If a family shares one PC without separating user accounts within the PC, using Microsoft 365 apps under this contract may constitute a license violation. Please be very careful. - The installed Microsoft 365 apps regularly communicate with cloud servers to verify whether the correct usage rights are maintained.
If a PC remains offline for an extended period, it may not be able to verify usage rights, and use of Microsoft 365 apps could be suspended.
Please regularly connect the PC to the network to ensure that the user permission information is properly updated.
2. How to install on a computer (Windows, Mac)
First, please check whether Microsoft Office products are already installed on your computer.

If Office software is not installed
Please proceed according to the "Installation" steps. -
If Office 2016 or Office 2019 is installed
Support for connecting to Microsoft 365 services ended on October 10, 2023.
Please switch from Office 2016 or Office 2019 to Microsoft 365 as soon as possible.
For instructions on how to uninstall Office 2016 or Office 2019, please refer to "Uninstall Microsoft 365 or Office from a PC".
After uninstalling, please proceed according to the "Installation" instructions. -
If Office 2021 is installed
Support will end on October 13, 2026.
Please decide whether to continue using the current software or switch to the Microsoft 365 apps (with THERS account). If you are switching to Microsoft 365 apps, please uninstall the current software first and then follow the "Install" procedure to install the Microsoft 365 apps. Please note that if you switch to the Microsoft 365 app and then want to revert to the original software (Office 2021), you will need the original software's installation information (product key, the Microsoft account used during installation, etc.).
If you lose this information, you will not be able to revert to Office 2021, so please be very careful. -
If Microsoft 365 apps are already installed
You can handle it by switching the account you sign in with.
Please perform the operation from the "Operation Check" procedure. (No installation is required.)
Installation
* Please note that students can install it from the date of enrollment onward, and new faculty and staff can install it from the date of employment onward.
- In a web browser https://m365.cloud.microsoft/ Please access and sign in using your THERS account.
If you are signing in with your THERS account for the first time, please complete the "THERS account Setup". - When you successfully sign in to Microsoft365 Copilot, the screen for the "Microsoft365 Copilot Portal" will be displayed. You can access various Microsoft 365 services from the Microsoft 365 Copilot portal.
- "Apps" >"Install App" > "Microsoft 365 Apps".
- Click "Install Office" to download the installation file (OfficeSetup.exe) to your PC.
The downloaded file will be saved in the "Downloads" folder or similar location. - Double-click the saved file and follow the on-screen instructions to proceed with the work.

"Download, install, or reinstall Microsoft 365 or Office 2024 on a PC or Mac" - The Teams app requires a separate installation.

Operation Check
If "Sign in to get started with Office" is displayed
- Click on "Sign in to your account or create an account".
- Enter your THERS account and password, and sign in.
If "This account does not have Office yet" is displayed
- Click on "Use a different account".
- On the screen that continues to display, click "Sign In".
- Enter your THERS account and password, then sign in.
If the above message does not appear
- Click "Account" and check the "User Information".
If your THERS account is displayed, you have successfully signed in, so please finish the operation here.
If information other than your THERS account is being displayed, please proceed to step 2. - Click "Sign Out". (A confirmation screen will appear, but please press the "Sign Out" button to continue.)
- Click "Sign In".
- Enter your THERS account and password to sign in.
When the screen asks, "Sign in to all apps, websites, and services on this device?", please click "No, this app only".
Clicking "Yes" may cause the error code "Device management could not be enabled" to occur when starting the app.

3. How to Install on Smartphones and Tablets
Unlike in the case of a PC, you first install the app from the App Store or Play Store and then sign in.
