Q. My Outlook is displaying received emails as garbled text. Is there a way to fix this?
A. Please try the following steps.
- Open the email that is displaying garbled text.
- Select the following in order: "Message" > "Move" > "Actions" > "Other Actions" > "Encoding" > "Japanese (Auto-Select)".
- If the garbled text is not resolved, please try changing the encoding to "Japanese (Shift-JIS)" or "Japanese (EUC)" and see if that fixes the issue.
Possible causes of garbled text include differences in character encodings between the sender and recipient and the use of platform-dependent characters. If the garbling is due to different encodings, changing the character encoding may allow the message to display correctly.
