Q. How to reconfigure the Microsoft Authenticator app?
A. Configure the settings using the method below.
*From January 2025, the name "Microsoft 365" was changed to "Microsoft 365 Copilot".
- Sign in to the Microsoft 365 Copilot home from your PC.
- Click the user icon at the bottom left of the screen, then click "View account".
- Click "Security Info" from the menu.
- Select "+ Add sign-in method".
- Select "Microsoft Authenticator".
*Authentication methods that cannot be added—such as those already configured—will not be displayed.
- If the Microsoft Authenticator app is already installed on your new device, such as a smartphone, click "Next".
*If the app is not installed, please install it first.
- Click "Next".
- Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your new device, such as a smartphone, and tap the "+" icon.
Note: If your THERS account is already registered, it will be overwritten.
- Select "Work or school account".
- Select "Scan QR code".
- Scan the QR code displayed on your PC using the Microsoft Authenticator app on the new device you want to register.
- After scanning, click "Next" on the PC screen.
- Enter the two-digit number displayed on your PC screen into the verification screen of the Microsoft Authenticator app on your smartphone, then select "Yes".
- A notification approval will appear on your PC screen, and the THERS account will be added to the Microsoft Authenticator app.
- Click "Next".
- Please confirm that the Microsoft Authenticator app on the newly registered device has been successfully added. Note that the device name may not be displayed immediately after registration.
- Select "Remove" for the Microsoft Authenticator app on the previously registered device.
The device name is displayed for the older registered Microsoft Authenticator app.
Note: Be careful not to delete the newly registered Microsoft Authenticator app.
- Click "OK" in the confirmation dialog for deleting the authentication app.
Confirm that the Microsoft Authenticator app on the previously registered device has been removed from the sign-in methods.
Note: Multi-factor authentication may be required.
- Click "Set default sign-in method" at the top of the "Security info" screen.
If the message "You’re using the most advisable sign-in method where it applies." is displayed, no changes are necessary.
- Select "App-based authentication – notification", then click "Confirm".
This completes the reconfiguration of the newly registered Microsoft Authenticator app.
