Q. How long are meeting recordings in Teams retained, and is it possible to change the retention period?
A. In the Tokai National Higher Education and Research System tenant, meeting videos are retained for 60 days, and the retention period can be changed.
The process for permanently deleting recorded data is as follows.
Ⅰ . Meeting recordings are retained for 60 days from the date the Teams meeting was recorded.
Ⅱ. After 60 days the recording is moved to the Recycle Bin. In SharePoint, items in the Recycle Bin are permanently deleted 93 days after being moved there.
To restore recording data that has been moved to the SharePoint Recycle Bin, please refer to the steps below.
1. Open the Teams channel where the recording was stored before deletion, click the "Shared" tab, select "More commands (...)", and then click "Open in SharePoint".
2. Click "Recycle Bin" in the left menu of SharePoint.
3. Place a checkmark (✓) next to the recording you want to restore.
*Teams meeting recordings can be restored from the SharePoint Recycle Bin if they are between 61 and 92 days old, counted from the recording date. Meeting videos that are 93 days old or older cannot be restored, so please be aware.
4. Click "Restore".
5. Open the channel in Teams where the recording is stored, then click the "Recordings" folder under the "Shared" tab.
6. Please confirm that the restored recording has been saved.
Please refer to the steps below for how to change the retention period.
Only the meeting organizer can change the retention period. Also, if you plan to extend the retention period, please confirm there is enough available storage at the destination before making changes.
